Structural Rafter Connection

Structural Rafter Connection

Hi All,

I am having some trouble getting a structural connection to work. I am running Revit Structure 2017.

I have 2 rafters I am trying to join with an end plate splice, both are the same size and shape, 1 is curved and one is straight.

The only option available is the generic connection.

I have loaded the other relevant connections but the options are not displayed in the properties drop down tab.

i know it has something to do with the curved beam and just wondered if anyone else has had this issue and if so how did you solve it.

I have tried to add a straight section to the end of the curve with a spline but this did not change the outcome.

There is a base plate connection loaded on the screen but when you change it to generic it disappears

Cheers

Shawn

Hello Shawn,

What happens when you try to create the "end plate splice" connection directly?

1. Press the Connection command.

2. From Type Selector pick the "end plate splice" connection type.

3. Afterwards, select the 2 input elements.

If you use this workflow and the connection geometry is still not generated and you get an "Connection creation failed" error message, then the connection that you are trying to model is not covered by the connection type macro.

I tried your method on all connections that might be relevant to this situation and I get an error message 'Invalid Connection Input' see attached

I might have to just draw a detail component in this instance

Hi,

The connection macros don't cover your situation.

I think that drawing a detailed component is the only option.

You can make a small straight rafter in some demolished phase and connect it with other straight rafter instead curved rafter. Then adjust curved rafter end to endplate of connection.
