Structural Precast 2018 disaster

There are couple of major issues with this extension. You can make slabs and walls which are looking nice at the first sight but if you are really trying to do some structural engineering with it, it is totally useless. I don´t even understand why it is called structural extension. It should be architectural visualization for precast.

First major problem is with the division profiles.

Here is one image which shows the problem the best

image.pngThe division profile is not created to the first HCS so it will end up to be its own assembly. NO! It is 100% similar than the second one and I want them to count as a one type. So please fix this amateur problem to the precast extension.

Second annoying problem is that if you create a HCS where you attach a recess it will end up moving the voids too low if the recess is longer than the remaining proportion of the slab.

Here is the image of that:

image.png

Slab length is 6m and the recess is 3.1m. Another image if the recess is a bit shorter side by side.

These two problems gripples the whole extension. The idea behind it is good but still it needs tons of development.

For structural designing this is completely useless

Hi @KIMRAMFI,

Thank you for reporting these issues you are facing while using the Precast extension. Could you please share the model in which you have these issues?

Kind regards,

Hi @KIMRAMFI,

For the first issue, I can tell you that this is how parts are behaving.Let me add some context on how the hollow core precast assemblies are created.

  1. For the structural element the parts are created;
  2. Division lines are created based on segmentation parameters;
  3. For the division lines, the profiles are added (since the beginning and end of the element doen't have division lines no profiles are added there);
  4. The voids are place based on the Distance to Top parameter (the voids take the top surface as the reference);
  5. All elements are added to an assembly;

I have attached a screencast showing this and how to obtain similar assemblies.

Regarding your second issue, the void are reacting to your recess because the recess is more then the half of the surface. This means that the new surface for the voids is not the top of the hollow core, but the newly created face. To overcome this issue, you just need to select the voids an change the parameter 'Position from Top' with the height of the recess. More details about defining the parameters and families for hollow cores can be found here.

Hi!

Thank you for your response.

I understand completely why the extension is behaving like it is but I was trying to say that is should not behave like that.

I should be able to get complete assembly schedule via extensions but right now it is not possible. The division profiles are not working like that I could archieve the assembly schedule and I should not have to manually edit the void in hollowCore slab afterwards. the "external" void element should not affect the placement of voids.

And by the way. If i want to edit the voids manually  I first need to turn off the precast extension

If I don´t turn it off it won´t keep the changes what i have made inside the assembly.

Hi @KIMRAMFI,

In order to apply the changes to families that are used by precast you would need to use the apply button. This way you do not need to turn off the precast add-on.
