Structural beams not showing when detailed levels changed to course

I have been having a problem in Revit where some beams don't show if the detail level is changed to course.

In the screen grab below there are two beams spanning from GL-A to GL-B and GL-B to GL-C, I can select the beams and I cam tag them (SB4) , but they do not appear to be there when I change the detailed levels to course, they are there they just dont show.

when I change the detail levels to fine, they appear.

The beams that wont show when i change the detail level have the same properties as other beams that show fine, does anyone know a way round this please?! its not feasible to have to keep re-drawing beams that wont show.

hi @ewFR43G

You will need to check the file to diagnose it properly, but here are the first things I recommend verifying:
Select one of the beams that does not appear in the Course detail level and click Edit Family to open the family editor.
In the Properties palette, check the Symbolic Representation parameter.
Ensure it is set to 'From Project Settings'.
If it is set to 'From Family', then the beam will only show symbolic lines defined within the family.
In that case, you need to draw Model Lines in the plan view inside the family and adjust their Visibility Settings so they appear in the Course detail level.
These steps usually resolve missing structural framing in coarse mode. If the issue remains, the project file must be reviewed for more specific causes.

Thank you! I have gone into Edit Family and the Symbolic Representation parameter is set to 'From Project Settings'.

How would you review the project file for a more specific cause?

To provide an accurate answer, I need to review the file.
If you’re able to share it, please attach it here so I can take a closer look.

Are they out of the box families or custom made beam families?  If you change the beams to the same family/type of those that show correct do they now show as expected?

Also the SB4 to the Left does not look truly horizontal as the symbolic line and grid appear off so may need reviewing.

Okay thank you! I have attached two models where I am having this issue. Model 1 is the model that I shared screen grabs from previously, the beams that aren't showing have a view region on them. I tried adjusting the level of the beams to be the same as other beams in the view that showed okay and they then appeared when I had the detail level set to fine.

However I have had the same issue in a different model which doesn't have a view region on so I'm not sure if it is the view region causing the issue in Model 1. I have also attached the second model where i am having the issue - Model 2.

Model 1 - the views with the problem beams is Roof and the beams are along GL-1

Model 2 - the view with the problem beams is roof again and the on-plan bracing that wont show when i change the detail level to course are between GL-1 to GL-2 and GL-A to GL-B and

GL-D-GL-E (screen grab below)

Thank you for taking time to look into this! Much appreciated!

For model 1 - I would categorically state its related to you view ranges and in the Roof Level View it is not going down far enough - as a quick check change the View Depth and Bottom options to Unlimited and see if this makes a difference - if they are not visible then then are below the Current View Range

Editing the Plan Region to increase the Depth

For Model 2 - The Hidden Braces are lower than the other braces as show in 3D just adjust the View Depth slightly

The difference could be as simple as the Beams in Medium/Fine detail (3D) extend into the View Range and in Course Detail do not!

hi @ewFR43G

To solve this issue, you need to correctly adjust the View Range settings.
To make it clearer, I used PyRevit to visualize the View Range more effectively. I’ve attached a video showing the process.

You can download PyRevit from the link below:

Thank you!

Do you think the issue with model 2 is also a view range issue?

I haven't checked it. I'll check it when I have free time and let you know.

But @jay_colc has answered.

No problem, model 2 is also a view range issue. I have had a look at model 2 and the beams that weren't showing were at the wrong level anyway. I have had a play round and they now showing.

Thank you so much for your help!
