 Hello Arun,

The Section Name Key is un-editable by the user. This is used to map the profile to the corresponding section in Advance Steel software.

Hello Mihai!

how do I assign a section name key to a beam family that I create? I need this to easily export them to Robot and Advanced steel. Or if there is another method to do so. I need to create beam families that are exported without needing to map them when importing in Robot! I`ve seen families that work this way with and without section name key, but I can`t make my own!

Thanks a lot!!

Ordinarily you set these values in a type catalogue text file associated with the family but that parameter is ignored.

I see no other obvious way in the family editor.

OOTB families appear to come with them preset which is no good if you need to make a new type.

Can set the = formula temporarily to change it but that changes every type in family and so is no use either.

Should be that once you set section shape you then have a sub heading for section name key, otherwise how do you introduce a
UB457x152x67 if all you have currently in the family is a UB305x102x25, it doesn't appear to detect name key from family type name.

Mostly analysis and detailing programs match type names with sections in their own catalogues but if the types are bespoke such as fabricated sections then other dimensional property names need to be consistent. Most structural parameters are either listed in books (for standard sections) or derived from geometric properties for bespoke, so I never really understood why we have to fill those out once we pick the section type i.e. it should be inherant.

I would also like to know how to get this value inputted with a Type Catalog.  Makes no sense for this parameter to act differently than any other parameter in Revit.  Mapping as other had mentioned typically use the "TYPE NAME" so why is Advance Steel so limited?
