Section Text offset from Section Head

We use custom working section heads to reflect the person that is using the section.  When we used the same tags in Revit 2016 everything worked great!

When working in Revit 2017 using the same section marks placed the text outside of the section head.  If I stretched the section the test would get further away from the section head.  I created a new section head, from scratch, in Revit 2017 and I am still getting the same results.  When I use the default section heads everything works as normal.  Again the only reason we use custom working sections heads is so we don't delete a section that someone is using.

Are you modifying the out of the box section head and just adding another parameter?

Yes.  I took the out of the box selection head and modified it by adding basic text to the section head.  We did the same thing with the 2016 version that works.  When we used the 2016 version in 2017 we started to get this issue.  At that point, I took the 2017 out of the box version and modified it.  When I pulled the 2017 version into a new project it was giving me the same results.

@Anonymous

Thanks for posting this issue.  Which font is being used in this case?  Can you upload a small rvt file.

To see the problem, to see the problem, would we just need to rotate the section in the project environment?

@michael.coviello The font that is being used is Arial.

There have been a few times when I have edited my family did minor adjustments, unpin and repin the text, and reloaded the family back into the model and everything seemed to work.  However, the following day when I would reopen the project it would go back to being offset and the little adjustments that I did before wouldn't work to fix the issue a second time.

Thank you for the file,  I can see two problems that exist in the file.

  1. Text in family not keeping position when pinned.    Can you confirm that the text in family SC_Section Head - Working was created prior to 2017?
  2. Text in family, not displaying when file is opened (Known issue that the development team is working on)

For item 1-

This appears to be a known issue when upgrading to 2017 and the new text editor

To fix this

  1. Edit Family:  SC_Section Head - Working
  2. Create new text instances which will use the new 2017 text editor (EST, LYT, PE/FE, etc.)
  3. Pin the text and associate its visibility to the appropriate parameter.

To workaround Item 2

To fix this issue, Open the family, make one small change (such as draw a line, then delete the line),

This will modify the family so when reloading into project, revit will prompt to overwrite family.

I look forward to your hearing back.

That didn't work as expected...  When I opened the model the text was missing from the view.  I edited the family by adding a line and then deleting it.  When I reloaded and told it to overwrite the parameters it showed the text however it was still off to the sides.  I then tried the other fix, I deleted the text from the family and placed new text.  After assigning the text and pinning it I loaded it back into the model and selected overwrite the parameters.  This time the text aligned but didn't go into the section heads.

Yes, this family that we are looking at was created in Revit 2016.  However, I had the same issue with the 2017 version when I created it using one that was preloaded into the project from the Construction Template.

@Anonymous,

Do you happen to have a version of this file/family in 2016 version?

I am also seeing that this is not working as expected although in my previous test, the steps above worked.  It may be a problem with the method of text creation that I'll investigate.  Thank you

Having the same trouble and with a section head, although the same problem does not happen with callouts or elevation markers! I am about to try creating a custom symbol family and nest that into the section head as a workaround!

Hi,

I had the exact same issue, created a family in this case the same type and upgraded to 2017. Text displaced away from the family and despite fixing it, each occasion I saved the project and re opened the issue would appear again! I have a fix!

Open the Section head family! Create a Symbol (Generic Annotation Family) using Text! Save this and load into the section head, in th section head insert the symbol family and position it! Apply desired VIS parameter and load in! Save your project shutdown and reopen! Problem should be resolved. it is working for me!

Regards

Nathan
