Ribbed Slab

Hi all. Attached is a plan of a sloping ribbed slab & section. I have 2 queries. First is I would like to see the ribs as hidden lines in plan. I have tried show hidden lines in view ribbon, but this doesn’t work. Second query is in the section view:  I would like to grab anywhere on top of the slab and move it up, but Revit won’t allow me to snap to anywhere on top of the slab. I have attached the file as well. Any help would be appreciated.Slab Plan.JPGSection5.JPG

its because of the filleted corners. if you corner those off you will see the Hidden lines.

Thank you for your reply. I can probably corner them off, but that is not how they are. they actually have an arc like in the section I have shown. any idea about my second query please?

Yep, that kind of thing happens all the time. Sometimes you can't model exactly what the element looks like and have it represent properly. if you want to see the hidden lines there has to be an Edge to show as hidden. with rounded corners, there is no "Edge". What my Structural engineers do is model it the best they can and then address other more detailed representation in details.

Hi. i forgot to mention by the way i did try cornering off the corners as per your image. but all i see in plan are solid lines instead of hidden lines like you are showing. my detail level is set to wire frame. i did try to set the detail level to hidden, but then i couldn't see any lines dotted or solid to show the ribs.

your detail level has to be Hidden line.... i mean that is kinda the point right :-). i forgot to add also... LOL... set the Show Hidden Lines to ALL after cornering the ribs.

Thanks for that. I can display the dotted lines on plan now after setting the hidden lines to all, but this is after I have cornered off the corners like you suggested. Is there any way to see dotted lines on plan if you don't corner off the corners? Because in reality my corners are radius filleted.

  • You can draw them in manually using Detail lines in your view
  • You may be able to edit the family to add dashed Symbolic Lines to the family where the ribs are. then add a Yes/No parameter to control there visibility.  Personally, a lot more trouble than its worth....
