Revit Structure project - instantaneous clicks taking 10-25 seconds

i've worked on this particular project for a year, no significant changes have happened in the last 6 months.

however, What should be instantaneous clicks are taking 10-25 seconds. This started several days ago. So, something has happened, i'm just not sure what.

on my Structural end....

-no new links

-no new families

-no new fonts

Architectural side - they have several

- new linked models

- new dwg's

- etc

i've unloaded the Arch model and it fixed all instantaneous clicks.  this is not a permanent fix though, obviously i need the architectural model for backgrounds and live sections.

so, my question is.....what should i ask the Architect to check inside their model - for a permanent fix??

Thanks,

David

so, my question is

There's nothing the Arch can do to fix it on your side. Your best bet in my opinion is to control what you are seeing in the linked models. You may need the arch models, but you probably don't need everything in the arch models all at once. Another possibility is more worksets for your linked models, only load what your working with immediately.

i agree with @ctm_mka,  doesn't sound like the problem is in your model. It's stemming from the Arch model.

  • is the Architect being done by staff at your firm or from another firm?

are these workshare-enabled files with worksets?

  • of so, if they have worksets, and the architect is actually using them, when you open a file, you pick the Specify... option to seelct what worksets to load.  chances are its not on a wo

you'll probably need to go into the link settings and start turning off categories to see what is effecting it.  if you can find specific categories that are causing it you can turn them off in a View Template and apply it as needed.

another option, and this is a bit drastic and might upset some people, is to do a eTransmit of the arch model (add-ins ribbon > Transmit Models).

  • at the bottom pick the cleanup option
  • do a Remove all Sheets but include....
    • and uncheck all or most of the options from the select button.

this will basically strip everything down to just the model content. like i said, its a bit drastic, but i have had to do this to files from clients and subs in the past to make the model manageable.

FYI - The Arch has fixed the issue.

They copied in a very large "waterslide tower" into their model. This was the culprit.

Since then, they have removed these elements from their model - generated a model with those elements only to be able to link inside all other disciplines. (or not).

this was the ultimate fix. literally removing the large elements from their model.

thanks!

David

These are good options for certain issues.

it stinks that some options become obsolete when your links are on the ACC. (cloud).

Your fortunate that you had a designer willing to admit it was in their model 😊. I have worked with some who didn't care.

glad you got it figured out though 👍
