REVIT 2024 SLOW

EXTREMLY DISAPPOINTED. EXTREMLY FRUSTRATED.

AUTODESK IS NOT STEPPING FORWARD, NOT STEPPING UP AND REVAMPING THE REVIT PLATFORM.
STILL AT 16CORES? STILL HORRIBLE HANDELING 3D SPACE. YES 3D SPACE. THE SPACE, IS WHAT SHOULD BE THE SHINNING POINT IN REVIT. ITS SLOW, IT IS SLOW, OVER AND OVER. 2020 CRAZY SLOW, 2021 VERY SLOW. REVIT 2024 STILL SAME ISSUE. WE HEAR FROM FOLKS THINGS RVT'S GETTING BROKEN UP TO CHUNKS "BECAUSE" REVIT BOGS DOWN...
WHAT IS THAT ALL ABOUT?? STALLING, FREEZING, CANT ORBIT. ETC. CANT ADJUST DIMS W/O HOURGLASS, EVERY INSTANCE!
ITS BECOMING SO OBVIOUS, SO NOTICABLE. THAT, IT IS NOT AS MUCH AS THE USER EQUIPMENT, AS MUCH AS AUTODESK PROGRAMS, NOT DESIGNING A GOOD PERFORMANCE PACKAGE. THEY ARE NOT
NOT COOL AT ALL.

Hi @asikorsky

Thanks a lot for posting your question to the forums!

Working in a Revit model involves interacting with many systems, and if any one (or more) of those systems have slow performance, the entire experience in Revit can be slowed down.

At a high level, there are the following systems:

  • The Revit software.
  • Supporting software (for example, Microsoft .NET Framework, Visual C++ Redistributable).
  • Third party software and services (that are running at the same time as Revit taking resources away from the system and potentially directly interfering with the program).
  • The storage media (slow performance reading or writing to the storage media will slow down operations that do this).
  • The operating system (OS updates can influence Revit performance).
  • The system hardware (including CPU, Graphics Card, RAM...).

Important points to keep in mind when looking at performance issues:

  • If the performance recently changed, what (if any) of the items above were changed?
  • What are you comparing the performance against? (For example, if a new system appears to be slower than an older system, review the journals of both systems when going through similar steps to look for differences as well as compare the specifications between the systems).

It would be amazing if you could provide more information and clarity on the slow performance you are experiencing, such as a sample project and or screenshots.

This will allow me to review the issues further and escalate to the product team as required.

We look forward to hearing back from you with more information so we can help you as a community!

In order to be successful drafter, tech, or engineer, Revit is Not the only Application running on your PC.
MS Tools, Add in, Cloud based apps aka. google/edge browser tabs. I mean the list is there.

Believe me, many attempts have been taken, and the root cause of many issues is the platform on which Autodesk built Revit.
Obviously, by now you should have noticed, we are not dealing with "small project" user. We are dealing with Big Project users. Multifamily, Commercial, etc. RVT file in the range of 900MB.

Is Autodesk going to tell me, that my issue is Not Revit, but rather its me, my company running a large project with a descent size drafting team?

To add more: Revit offers "overalls" option, where you can make print packets and export them as a PDF document.
An appropriate Shop Packet, Print Packet, call it what you will, ranges between 30-40pgs.

Do you know? how much time it takes Revit to generate a 38page packet?
20min... On average. What is that all about?? During that time, Revit is untouchable. You press one key, and the screen shows "Not Responding" mode. If a company decides to put out 3 units a day of "whatever", that means, 3 packets a day. Do you see where I'm going with this? I'm rendered useless with Revit for 1hr in a given shift.

I mean guys, I'm putting down RAW feedback. Where is Autodesk? in improving Revit where it matters. PERFORMANCE. Capping to 16cores, still?? 64GB of RAM on deck and editing dimensions, STILL stalls with grayed out screen with hourglass?

I have to "gut out", turn off a BUNCH of layers in my VV settings, JUST so that I can orbit easily??
Do know what does to "clash detection" options?

I can go on. How about a case where 3rd party company gives (60) rvt files to one projects. Who does that? Or, should they do it, any ideas, WHY they are doing it that way?

I mean seriously, Autodesk needs to step up. Where 1gb rvt performance, SHOULD soly depend on users' hardware.
That way, users can give clear answers to their decision makers on what hardware to get

Why has this been marked as "Accepted solution" it doesn't offer a solution just excuses, there is clearly issues with running REVIT and blaming addins other softwares isn't fixing the problems.  I'm experiencing the sames issues brand new high spec pc however it cannot run REVIT or AutoCAD without lagging and freezing.  I can run more complex models in Tekla structures without lag or freezing the problems are within the Autodesk software that are'nt being looked and fixed with each new version, browse the forums and you can see this.
