Revit 2017 - No New Structural Connections

So I'm running the new Revit 2017 and with eager antisipation, went straight for the new Structual Connections feature....nothing.  Only the generic connection object is listed.  I tried loading any familes I could find, but they don't show up as new structural connection objects.  I think the ones available to load are the old style, not the newer ones that interface with Advance Steel 2017.  Any ideas?

Hi,

Are the sections you are trying to place connections on certified?

Please see the attached picture. If they have "SectionNameKey", they are certified.

Best regards,

Irina

 Hi Manh,

Could you please do the following test, to see if this issue is linked to another one which we are investigating at the present moment?

1. In a new Revit model, load the Base Plate connection type.

2. Create a structural steel column and then press on the Connection button.

3. Open Type Selector menu and select the Base Plate connection type.

4. Select the column and then press Enter.

5. Wait several seconds and see if the connection geometry is created, after the Background Process finishes.

6. After the connection geometry is created, press on the Modify Parameters button, in order to open the Connection dialog menu.

Does the menu open?

If the menu doesn't open, then this issue is related to the one mentioned in this post:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-structure-forum/structural-connection-modify-parameters-not-wor...

If this is the case, can you please write in the mentioned post, your machine configuration.

Dear my friend,

I already followed your advice, but the steel connection isn't still
working.

The connections only are showed in type properties panel.

Can you check again for me? I attached hereby my model.

At the moment, I'm using Revit 2017 and also steel connection for revit
2017 add-in.

Many thanks.

Ok, what everyone is missing is that if you use a 2016 migrated templet that has 2016 steel shape families you are out of luck. You must start from a Newley created 2017 templet with 2017 certified steel shapes.  Reloading the steel family which prompt you to override previous versions just does not hack it. I sespect because it is a database based family, once it is in your original templet and is already used you are out of luck.

Anyone know how to delete the whole 2016 steel shape family from a project in order to install 2017 certified family when it is full of valuable steel members that you do not want to actually lose in doing so?

For now best is to start a new fresh 2017 templet from scratch so that connection would work with out that error triangle.

Ok, I was totally wrong. It seems that the new shape family is listed differently in a new template.  Example structural columns are now under W-Shapes and not Wide Flanges. And the template separate them. So I guess no old member migration.  Must start with the new 2017 shape familie.

the good news then I can hopefully load the new family in addition to the old and update members one by one.

Success,  2017 steel family is located in the structural steel library in a folder titled AISC 14.1 and all these shapes will be loaded in parraleel to existing legacy shapes. Then it is a mater of manually replacing all members from old to new in the model then deleting the old family shapes from the family explorer.

Again in you will need the new 2017 family downloaded from the folder AISC 14.1 that can be accessed in the insert-load family .....   look for that folder and load all new shapes.

this is not an update to family.  This is a parallel instal and manual replacement of legacy members.

Good Day,

When I place my connection, the beams and columns update with the holes, but none of the connections plates or bolts display. I am also not able to select the connection after it is placed as it cannot be seen.

Friend,

My problem is different. For Revit structural connections I need to install
that structural connections Library package. I don't have that. Incase if
you know the download link of structural connections Library. Please share

Hi Grant-

I suspect that your view Detail Level is set to medium. In Medium detail level, only the beams and column geometry is shown, not the connection elements.

The other possibility is that the Connection subcategories are not on in your view.  If you go into visibility Graphics and expand the Structural Connections Category, you will see the subcategories for bolts, plates, etc- make sure these are checked to display them in your view.

Good Day

I have the same problem the steel connection is hidden and I can't unhide it. Strangely enough, I don't have all the subcategories of steel connection in my visibility/ graphic override setting and it only has hidden lines subcategory(see the picture attached).

Hi Alejandro,

I believe that you started from a different template then Construction or Structural.

From the View's Properties menu, can you change the Discipline from Coordination to Structural.

Can you confirm that this is the cause of the issue?

Good morning,

See Mihai's answer above, make sure that the "Filter list" is set to "Structure" here:

Revit 2018 - Visibility dialog - Filter list set to Structure.jpg

Then you will have access to all these options (used for the display of steel connection components):

Revit 2018 - Visibility dialog - Options in Structural Connections branch.jpg
