Revit 2017 - No New Structural Connections

So I'm running the new Revit 2017 and with eager antisipation, went straight for the new Structual Connections feature....nothing.  Only the generic connection object is listed.  I tried loading any familes I could find, but they don't show up as new structural connection objects.  I think the ones available to load are the old style, not the newer ones that interface with Advance Steel 2017.  Any ideas?

One of the causes for your issue might be the connection inputs ( columns/beams ). The detailed connections work only on Revit certified families. Please see this section from online help: http://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2017/ENU/?guid=GUID-6244E741-5D14-4DAD-AE25-5069F71B69F3

3) Is that will be public API to make own addon for steel connections?

The API for connection Macros is not available.  The SDK for Connections macros for 3rd parties is available as part of Advance Steel (but not available for Revit yet).

The API for Generic connection and the support of the Revit/Approval workflow is available as part of the standard Revit API.

So, I download Bulding Design Suite 2017, download the connections add-in and fire up Revit to try it out. No joy, all I get is "Invalid connection input". Apparently this means I am using non-certified framing and column members but I just loaded them from the UK content library, so what's wrong?

I'll tell you what's wrong - on further investigation the whole Revit 2017 UK content library is all dated January 2012, I wondered why it said it was upgrading everything from "Revit 2013 - preview" when I loaded the families. One of my colleagues has upgraded their Collaboration Suite and this has the correct library packaged with it (files all dated Jan 2016) so I have fixed the issue by copying their library across.

So, Autodesk, you need to sort out the UK content library that is packaged up with the Building Design Suite Premium.

One other thing - how do I change the bolt diameter selection in the connection parameters to metric?

I guess that all national parts of content library is obsolete.

I don't think so because the correct UK library has been packaged with Revit in the "Collaboration Suite", just not in the "Building Design Suite".

I had similar issues that some templates and families were from older libraries. As I was early with downloading the files it contained some older files.

Apparently Autodesk updates the download files when they find issues. I have not verified it, as it is of no major concern to me, but redownloading the installation files might help.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Hi there,

I have just upgraded to Revit 2017 and am hoping, as a subscription user, I can have access to this steel connection tool.

Is anybody able to direct me to where the add-on/update for the steel connections actually is on the Autodesk app store?

It seems very difficult to even search for it...

Many thanks.

The Steel Connections for Revit addon is not available through the App Store.

The Steel Connections for Revit addon is only available through the "Autodesk Desktop App".

You can find it by searching in the start menu, or under All Programs>Autodesk>Autodesk Desktop App

Thanks Joe.

I was lost on how to install this feature, and so was my software reseller. All my reseller could say is it should be in your subscription account area.

Thanks again,

Kirk

I was getting the missing .dll error too. I can't install the 64 bit Microsoft Access Database driver because we have 32 bit MS Office on our 64 bit machines. Revit just keeps crashing when I try the Connections feature.

I did uninstall and reinstall the 32 bit MS Access Database thing and now Revit Connections seems to kind of work. I say kind of, because it no longer crashes. It inserts something with a warning sign. I click the warning sign and I get an "Invalid connection input" warning.

It's a simple clip angle on a W14x145 beam connecting to a W14 column.

Update. I'm able to get some connections working. I guess it depends on the type of connection you use with the type of steel it's connecting. The clip angle worked on two horizontal beams, but not on a beam going into a column.

I'm getting the same message. I'm using U.S. shapes (W14x145, W12x26, etc.). Sometimes the connections work sometimes not. For instance, I can do a clip angle on two intersecting beams, but not on a beam connecting to a column even though the connection preview shows a situation exactly like I'm trying to apply it on. Impressive when it works, but frustrating when it doesn't.

Hi,

The Steel Connections add-on can be found on your Autodesk account, in the Updates section or Revit section. You can access it via your "Autodesk Desktop App".

Best regards
