Revit 2016 - Ghost or Phantom objects appearing I can't get rid of.

Hello all,

I have a channel that is appearing in my model that I can't get grab or delete???...I want it gone!

(Anyone lose a 2ft channel?)

Anyways, I don't believe it is part of linked model (even though I do have some linked in) for I have checked them and there is no channel out there.

Any clues?

There are a number of reasons that you might not be able to select an element visible in your view.

In general, the selection filters that disallow selecting certain types of elements appear down in the right side of the Status Bar (at the bottom of the Revit window).

There are checkboxes for allowing selection or filtering out of elements that:

    -Are in a Design Option (the "Exclude Options" checkbox)

    -Are in Worksets that are not editable (the ""Editable Only" checkbox)

There are buttons that allow you to select or filter out:

    -Elements in Links

    -Elements that are part of an Underlay

    -Elements that are Pinned

(The dropdown under the Modify/Select button also allows you to set those selection options)

Thank you for your post.  In this case, the beam looks to be an object that is cut off by some kind of scope box or section cut (first guess).  If this is isolated to one view or sheet, one additional thought would be to create a new view and sheet to then test and compare overall results.

For me to take a deeper look, please reply back with a copy of the model in question for testing, along with the exact view to then attempt to replicate.  This will help shed light on what you are seeing.  Please keep us posted.  Thank you and we look forward to your reply to beset help in this case wherever possible.

It is not isolated to one view.  It appears in all views that associate with it in it's relative space (i.e. depth and horiz position).

If I create a new section view, it appears there as well.

I use section boxes, and the object falls within the limits.  It appears to be a foot or 2 long, thats it.

I don't use scope boxes, so not sure how to check that.

The file is 16Megs.  And I have a bunch of links to it.

So, instead of bogging down the forums with a huge file (not sure if that is a problem or not???) I did a purge

of all model objects, links, families and whatever was not being used to get it down in size.  It is still there, amazingly.

This may also help you narrow down the number of problems to check.  If it doesn't help, let me know if you want

me to send you the full size copy and any of its links and extra families.

Attached is the purged copy and 2 views for which it appears.

Thank you for your post and file.  In this case, I did find that the “C” channel beam was inherited and unable to be selected (first video).  This however, under revealing hidden elements, identified that the item had a center line and end points (odd).  I decided to dive deeper in my clean up and investigation.

I was then able to purge (remove) the c-channel  beams, and confirmed in the attached files that the issue is then resolved.  I have included a video below with details of this clean up and then confirming this issue is now resolved.  Please let us know how this worked out and if there are any questions.  Thank you and we look forward to your reply.

Mike,

Although, deleting the C10 family does get rid of the phantom channel that is causing the problem, it also deletes the other multiple channels I do need to keep.  The project is too big to locate and add back in all the instances that were removed.

Therefore, I can not except this as a solution.

Also,  I don't think deleting all the 3d views needs to be done for the object dissappears completely when we purge out the family.  It is gone in the coorsponding 3d views.  Besides, I need those views and would have to recreate them again.

URIKKKKKKAAAAAA!!!!!

As I was replying to the previous person, I was messing around with some settings I didn't try (didn't know about) before, and found that at the bottom of main Revit window there is the "Exclude Options" check box.  It was checked.  When I unchecked it, it made the object selectable (for whatever reason).

So, I solved this myself.

Can I give myelf a Kudos???

I had a modeler with the same problem today, he couldn't select, and thus delete, 2 instances of a column. The "Exclude options" checkbox is right next to design options at the bottom of the screen and it "filters selections to exclude components that are part of a design option".
