Reinforcing/Rebar Custom Presentation

We have been starting to use Revit as an all-in solution to detail reinforcing for precast elements. Placing reinforcing has been relatively smooth and seems to be working well. The only thing we would like is the ability to customize the way the reinforcing is shown in sections and plans. Adjusting line weights and colors are easy enough, but we have specific ways we like to oversize cross sections of bars to make the drawings more readable at different scales. Also having the ability to show the cross section of a hooked bar regardless of if its upturned or downturned is also something that we would like to see.

You might want to try looking into View Filters to see if this will get what you are looking for.

Filters have gotten us part of the way, but having the ability to have symbolic representation for certain things would be ideal. The transition from 2D shop drawing in AutoCAD to creating 2D shop drawings from 3D objects in Revit is obviously not going to be seamless. We have been using detail groups/families to achieve the presentation we need, it's just not the way we like to have to do it. I also realize this might be a niche case that won't impact the majority of users, but I like to hear other opinions/solutions that we might not have considered

You might not totally get what you want since you are dealing with 3D objects as you mentioned. You may need to change how you represent some things to get the same information. Revit and AutoCAD are very different, and trying to apply CAD workflows to Revit will never work.

I have seen some really good rebar shops done in Revit, so I know it can be done.
