reinforcement in external reference model

Hello,

I am working in a structural study office.

We a re working with Revit. We are in a situation where the main structural Revit model of a building is owned by the contractor. For several reasons we can only work with their model inserted in our local Revit model as external reference. The contractor posts his model twice a week with the modifications on a sharing site. Using of BIM360 has been denied by some of the parties involved.

So our problem is that when a structural model is inserted as an external reference, the elements are not recognized

anymore as concrete structural element by Revit, and therefore the reinforcement functionalities of Revit are not available. The buttons that allows to create reinforcements in these elements just does not appear on screen.

Does somebody has any idea how to enable the reinforcement functions in this situations ? And even if it was possible to enabled these functions, would the reinforcement be part of the local model or would it vanish when linking a new version of the external model ?

Hi @alain.lamarre

Currently it is not possible to add reinforcement to elements from linked projects. This is because reinforcement needs to write information inside its host and linked elements are read-only.

The only way to workaround this is to create structural elements in your project, overlapped with the ones from the linked model.
