Rectangular Straight wall openings

Hi All,

I am placing rectangular openings in walls and was wondering is there a way to control the default height?

Thanks,

Chris.

Not that I know of. But in general not something I am really missing.

Depending on the situation I use two different methods. Or I place them in an elevation view or I place them in plan view. After placement I select multiple (similar) openings and then set the base and top offset for the selected elements.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Thanks for the reply...

Yes I find myself doing the same way. But if I can dictate it on creation that would save the second step.

Please use window based openings in that case.

Thanks,

I see that logic but what I am doing is replicating architects window/door openings and there are differing widths and heights. You might elaborate I did this before but did not find it flexible enough for aligning plan dimensions.

All said there must be a logic behind the defaults revit uses when creating these opes and surely we should be able to control this??

Hi, Chris,

I'm Judy, a Revit specialist, and I'll be glad to help out with some ideas. I see that you'd like to have a default height for your wall openings; there isn't a way to set a default height, but you might find it helpful to draw a reference plane in your elevations or sections as a means of aligning the tops of your openings as you draw them.

Another idea is to create the first opening of a particular size and copy and paste it as needed. If you click the Constrain box on the toolbar, the copies will be exactly aligned horizontally as you place copies left or right of the original.

It sounds like you are not the only user who would like to be able to specify a default height for wall openings, so I'd suggest posting the idea on the Revit Idea Station, or voting for the idea if someone has already posted it. This is a great way to let the developers know what functionality or features you'd like to see in Revit.

Let me know if this helps!
