Hi all,

I was trying to create a wall opening which has some rebars modeled. For cutting the bars I modeled a Void Mass and tried cutting the rebars with the void mass . But it did not work . Refer Screenshot .

Can any on guide me if there is a way to cut rebars .

Hi @Anonymous

You can use the area reinforcement in wall and floor elements.

When sketching the boundary, just select the major direction and draw one line and finish.

See this post for more details.

When using shape driven rebar, you need to manually stop the bars at the face of the opening.

If the face varies in orientation (even non-planar), you can use varying rebar sets to cut at the side of the opening

You can also use free form rebar and stop the bars at the faces of the opening (Edit constraints > select the bar start or end > select the opening faces to stop bars). You need to create the bars on the opposite side.

We model a ton of rebar,  so how do you void out an area for area reinforcement,  like for a trench drain or sump pit?   It would make sense to adjust the programming to allow for a darn void on rebar.   Common man! (Bad Biden quote,  Trump Rules!)

Can you use Structural Area Reinforcement?

I tried the boundary but it cuts all of the reinforcement not just the trench drain. And yes this is area reinforcementArea Reinforcment - Boundary not as good as Void if void was possible.jpgArea Reinforcment - Boundary not as good as Void if void was possible.jpg

Having void cut for rebar would solve a thousand problems we have with rebar.  Sooooo Simple.

This is a bad solution and nothing but a cheap workaround.

As far as i know you cant propagate rebar thats drawn as an area. I dont see any reason why rebar isnt cut by wall/floor hosted voids other than Autodesk needing the topic to garner support for 25 years.
