Purlin connection problem

I'm using the structural connections feature in Revit 2018 for the first time. I've modelled lots of connections but can't get the 'single purlin custom cleat connection' to work. I keep getting an error saying "Unknown shape of connected element".

Revit can't recognise the purlin shape. It's a metsec purlin ,loaded of the Revit 2018 library. I've also tried downloading the purlin directly from Metsec but have had the same problem. Please help.

Hi guys,

In Steel Connections 2018, users can place steel connections on custom profiles. This enhancement uses a shape recognition tool.

The following shapes are not recognized by the tool:

- Z cold formed profiles

- Z with lips cold formed profiles

- L cold formed profiles

- L with lips cold formed profiles

I tested on the Light Gauge Purlin Metsec (Z and C) profiles, from Revit 2018 library. The Z profile is not recognized and steel connections return an "Unknown shape of connected element" warning message.

The C Purlin profiles can be used successfully.

How are you.

What connection did you choose for the c channel. I am trying the channel on a I beam rafter and it is not connecting. I have also used the top of the beam as the reference plane.

Hi @Anonymous,

The connections that you see in the picture that I uploaded are:

Single Purlin Tee, Single Purlin Folded Plate, Single Purlin Angle and Single Purlin Plate.

If you find a situation where these connections are not created, please send me a small rvt file with the beams that are causing the issue.

Hey, the light gauge sections are not working. I tried the channel shapes and they worked fine. Are you getting the C Section light gauge sections to work. I am using CISC (Canadian) Steel sections.

have you ever tried creating your own user defined connections. I feel this may be the way to go.
