importing image not working?

Hi there.  I'm having trouble importing a background Google Earth image in my model.  When I click insert-import-image, I get the dialog box and click on the image I want to import, when I click "open", nothing happens.  In the instructions/videos I've seen an X should show up so I can place the image somewhere.  I'm getting nothing.  And the image does not show up in "manage images" at all.

If I go to "manage images" and manually add the image there, it does show up, but count is 0, and I can't see how to place it anywhere in view.

I'm thinking it could be a filesize, DPI thing?  It was 96DPI, 4800x2883 JPG, filesize was about 5MB.  I tried rescaling to 72DPI, still didn't work even though filesize reduced down to under 2MB.  Can't find any posts on limits to DPI or pixels or filesize.

Any ideas?  BTW it's Revit 2018.3.

Importing images should be Ok. I am not aware of limitations in resolution/size.

You are correct that when you try to import an image a cross should become visible after you selected the image you wan to import.

Try the following:

-Restart your computer.

-Look for updates (Revit, OS, Graphics card)

-Try to insert different images and see if that works, also try different image types (e.g png)

-Try to insert an image into a new project.

Thanks mate.  I opened new project and can insert images fine - the cross shows up etc.

I then went back to the model I'm trying to insert this image into, and it's still not working.  I thought I'd try some other views, and some work and some don't.  I'm thinking it must be a view template issue then?  But I'm not sure whereabouts in the view template it needs to be changed?

A view template should not be an issue. A view template are a set of settings for the current view.

If you have a view template assigned to the current view you can easily disable it, by setting it to none

Then you can check in your visibility settings if you have your raster images set to on.

However, I still see the cross when this setting is disabled.

You also might check your  crop view settings.

When outside the crop region your view the cross will not be visible.

Boom!  That was it!  The "raster images" was unticked in that view template.  Ticked it and now the image inserts correctly.  Thankyou!

Not sure if i should start my own thread for this or post it in here. I guess ill see what happens here first......

After having inserted the image and hiding it by category in the view how does one make the image visible again in the view. I went to Manage Image and it shows a thumbnail of the image and says "Count 0". The image is an aerial photo underlay (which I was tracing over).

I can not for the life of me establish how you can have a referenced (or inserted image) which can be switched on and off as required without deleting it and having to re-insert (scale, reposition etc) all over again?

Am I losing my mind?

Have you tried reveal Hidden? Did you accidentally delete the image?
