Import error: Tekla tcZip to Revit

When importing a Tekla structural file into Revit I get this error: "The following errors were found whilst reading the import tcZIP file: Packet changed manually. The import has been aborted".

I suspect this might be an issue with the file itself. Any workarounds? Or Tekls operator has to re-export?

Import to Revit Addin version: 2016.4.3.0.
Revit build number: 20150714_1515(x64).
Revit version number: 2016.
Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise.
Total physical memory: 16GB.

Unfortunately Revit 2016 is client's requirement.

I got the same error message while I was importing both Revit_MetricDEMO file (tcZip) and some of my trial model files.  Below is the log of (tried to import) Revit_MetricDEMO file:

Revit build number: 20170223_1515(x64).
Revit version number: 2018.
Operating system: Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise .
Total physical memory: 32GB.

Date and time: 10/18/2018 16:38:15

Strangely one from my trial files is not working, having this error, and the other one is able to start importing process. The process itself is pretty long and time consuming. Working on 980/19660 "family instances" for more then 10 minutes, while I am typing this. Trial file exported from Tekla Structures is "heavy" about 12.9Mb.

I actually found a solution. 

You need to import Tekla geometry with Revit Add-on from Tekla:

https://www.tekla.com/products/tekla-structures/tekla-interoperability-autodesk-revit-products

It works like a charm, however, import may take a very long time (I am talking 10+ hours for 75MB Tekla model), so make sure you set a reasonable tolerance when importing.

Thanks for fast reply.

I actually downloaded that add-on from Tekla website already, the same one you quoted.

It is called: ImportFromTeklaToRevit_2018.2.4_x64.exe

And with that add-on in Revit I tried importing the above mentioned files, but I had same error messages as you had.

The 3rd file (I tried) seems to be working. It is still importing it. In 40mins it completed around 15% of 12.9MB file.

Let's see how it goes...

How where you importing .tcZip file before installing this Revit add-on from Tekla?

Previously I was importing as Open > Open as IFC file. In that case,
mapping was completely off while geometry didn't lose anything.

Any advice, based on your experience, what would be the best way to import model from Tekla to Revit?

Via this mentioned Add-on, or via "Open as IFC file", or something else?

I am quite new in this one, so I am looking for the best (and quickest) options, with as least possible data loss.

Also, if you know, could you point me to some thread or topic on these forum regarding the mentioned subject (if you already referred to some of those)?

It depends on your use case.

If you are looking for geometry comparison only then import as IFC, geometry will be as is, except all elements will be mapped incorrectly (in my experience as 'specialty equipment').

If you are looking for correct system representation, use the plugin. The nice thing with the plugin is that you can sync only new elements when you receive an update.

i also got this problem when i tried to import file "Revit_MetricDEMO_2017_20171219-135807.tcZip" to revit use add-in Import from tekla structure.

if you are a Tekla maintenance customer and using Tekla 2019 please try to use the new Tekla to Revit export addin from Tekla warehouse. It will convert your Tekla file into .rvt format directly.😉

Hi kosta,

can you update me on how was your experience using this method??, i have been using ifc imports and was looking at trying this method next, as i was hoping that it would allow me to copy monitor the structure so i can be alerted to any changes when a new updated file is imported. any feed back would be great thanks

To be honest with you I have not been using this method any further after I gave it a try at that time when I was raising inquiry on the Forum. So I do not have much new or additional info to share here with you. Sorry. But please for the sake of all of us here, share your findings after you get hold of it in the future.

This must be done with each line being under a layer representing its steel member/sectional size. Strangely enough, but I just stumbled upon this message when I was checking my Autodesk portal inbox.

I am not using Tekla at all so I would not be the right person to ask.
