hi,
can any body help by improving the structural framing tag family attached.. one screen shot attached shows my revit beam system with revit 2016 structural framing tag, but the way it is tagged is quite different from the traditional framing tag for joists.
the revit tag shows the joists extent lines, and the joist span is shown by the actual joists themselves in revit.
but my engineer wants me to hide the actual joist in revit (which i know how to do) and shows only the joist label (or tag) in the traditional way (screen shot of traditional joist framing label attached).
any idea on how to make this special structural framing family showing the joist span symbol in traditional way?
thanks, gideon
Since you are using Revit 2016, I don't think anyone would be able to help you editting the family tag.
What I would do if I were you is to edit the OOTB structural framing tag. Just add the 3 lines you have on the tag you have onto the OOTB tag. I think you know how to edit the labels for the tag. Create a couple different ones with various line length. Wood joists do not span that long so 2 or 3 different tags would be sufficient. Then tag a single joist at the middle of the joists system.
Although, it seems to me what you want to make is a symbol not tag.
You can make the tag with any Revit versions. What I meant was that it would be hard to edit your tag and send it back to you since Revit 2016 version is an old version that most people do not use anymore. If I edit your tag with a version above 2016, then you won't be able to use it because Revit does not allow the upgraded files to be reverted back to an older version. So I can only tell you what to do since I don't have 2016 version.
Open the beam system tag family. It will look like this
It consists of 3 parts (nobody knows why), 2 labels (Beam Type, Spacing) and text (@). I recommend to delete the text.
Select the Beam Type label and click on edit, either
or
Select "Beam Type" by clicking on it, then remove it by clicking the red arrow.
Then click on "Beam Type (No Family Name)" on the left and then on the green arrow
then close the popup by clicking OK.
Now click on the "Spacing" label and then on edit. Select "Centerline Spacing" by clicking on it. Type a "@ " in the prefix column, then click on the hand with the #.
After unchecking "Use project settings" you can choose the format that you like
Close the dialog, close the edit dialog. Move the "@ Spacing" where you want it". Make sure that the horizontal align for both labels is set correctly.
Save the family under a new name and load it into your project.
i do have revit 2020 now, please kindly send me the family for joist framing tag in revit 2020.
if you can, please help.
my friend, the family looks good.
but your family only show the arrows for the extent of the joists .
the arrows for the joist shown in attached drawing actually shows the length of the joist.
please kindly send me another family which can do my job.
thanks!
I am sorry I think was wrong. I think the beam system tag will not be able to achieve what you want. As far as I know, the beam system tag does not allow you to go parallel with the direction of the joists. You may want to use the structural framing tag instead. Show one middle beam from the beam system, then tag that beam with a structural framing tag. The structural framing tag will not read the beam system spacing that host the middle beam so you may have to use the comment or mark to show the beam system spacing manually.
Frankly speaking, I do not remember. I do not have anything older than Revit 2019 installed.
You can open a structural framing tag family, then edit the label and check the available parameters.
The example you showed does not look like you want to have the length of the joists being called out. If you do want to show the approximate length of the joists in numbers, then you could add what @Thomas.S.Teichmann showed in his answer to you in your label.
Again, Revit does not have the capability for backward compatibility, meaning that older version cannot open a file created from a newer version. For that reason, you may want to consult with your team first before moving to a newer version of Revit, since other team member won't be able to open the file you worked on or saved.
