How structure beam Cut Length is calculate?

I don't really understand how cut length of a structure beam is calculated and what is the use of it. I have come across these posts, but they don't really answer my question.

Length and cut length

cut length?

The problem is that when I have a concrete beam that connect 2 columns and offset 1 end of the beam, the cut length appears very strange.

1. In my first case, the cut length is even greater than the length of the beam. Isn't it suppose to be less than the total length?

2. In my second case, I believe the value for cut length should be:

  3600 / cos(7.31 degree) = 3629.5

However, the value in properties panel is quite different. How is cut length calculated?

Hi,

the length ~ statical length, so it's the systemline

the cut length should define the actual length of the beam. Somehow Revit doesn't cut the start and the end of the beam vertical.

I hope the picture helps

Thank you for the clarification.

May be Revit documentation should be updated or Revit should fix this problem, otherwise it is quite misleading in some difficult situations.

I totally agree, especially if you think about schedules. But at least the volume is calculated correctly.

Yes I agree that is the correct way to trim a steel beam calculations.
