When I go to rotate an object lets say a beam, the point of rotation is the center. How can I rotate the beam at a foot from the end? or any other point besides the center?

Revit will default to the centre of the element that you have select. Which may not always be where you wanted.
What you need to do, select the element you want to rotate, select rotate, then you will notice a blue dot appear, which is the rotation point of the object. Right click on the blue dot, and drag it to where you want it to go to change the rotation point. I have attached a couple pictures to help show it better, as well as a link to an article.

And keep asking those questions, that is what we are all here for.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

I do like the click-drag method, but sometimes you're zoomed in and don't see that blue dot. That's when ToanDN's method of picking the "Place" button in the Ribbon comes into play. In fact, I usually use that now more than the click and drag. I feel like I have more control that way.
