When i add a new region (e.g.) earth, then the regions already in my sheet all change to the new earth pattern. Do i have to "duplicate" and rename the new one?
They should only change if the name is the same if they are named different then it is strange that the existing also change but you can try to duplicate give it another name and change the fill pattern.
