I am trying to put fabric reinforcement in the bottom of retaining wall base. Revit won't allow me to pick the ret. wall base when I click on structure > reinforcement > fabric area. Any help appreciated?

fabric is used for Area Elements like floors, walls, and foundation slabs.

I assume you used structure component to model the retaining wall from the libarary of revit so it will not work for it. check the screen shot belwo

I used the wall foundation tool. I suppose work around would be to model the ret. wall base as a slab and then do fabric reinforcement?

yes it would work because it's a constrain to this type of reinforcement
