Is there anyone knows how to solve this issue,

I have a 600 MB revit file , I am  trying to export it to IFC but it is not working , the file will go to status of (not responding for many hours )

I do not want to split the file, because I have a file with 1.3 GB size and it worked easly,

what should I do?

I would suggest unloading all linked files (if there are any) and export each of them separately. sometimes steel elements cause trouble during export.

If you do not have any other models linked, I don't know what to suggest. ifc export from Revit has been a constant headache for us, and still is proving more of a hit and miss.

It looks like the source of the issue is coming from the truss family,

it's defined as structural framing, but it's making the file is very slow because there are a lot of instanses of it in the model,

Have you already confirmed the parts giving issues?

Otherwise some troubleshooting:

-In your IFC settings set export only elements visible in view and try to export with different categories switched off

Revit IFC - Export Only ELments in View.png

-Try Use active view when using geometry and for example, set view to coarse to see what happens.

Revit IFC - Use Active View.png

-Further you could try to set LOD  to Low or Extra Low

Revit iFC - LOD.png

-Finally make sure that you have "Export revit property sets" deselected

Yes,

I think the problem is coming from the truss family (it's defined as structural framing), because when I hide it and export ifc without structural framing it works very fast

we got more than 1000 instances of this truss in the model ,

Could you modify the truss family? Maybe create a course setting for the family. A simplified version which to be used to export to IFC?

for a BIM coordinator , usually you do not change the design model content, I will try that and see if that will solve the issue if yes we may ask the engineer to modify that

Hi,

I have tried, but it's the same issue,

I have attached the family,

could you please have a look at it and tell me what to do with it so it may solve the issue , because right now the issue is coming from this family for sure

I am not sure it is the truss family. I created a project and placed 1000 instances (20 different random lengths)

Export to IFC (2x3) took around 15 seconds. So problematic to test how modifications improve export.

RevitExportIFC1000Trusses.jpg

Maybe something else in the project (related to the truss) that causes the issue?

-Do an audit and see if that solves the issue.

-Something reported in the journal file?

-(On a copy) throw away 50% of the project and see if that resolves/improves the issue

-(On a copy) throw away the other 50% of the project and see if that resolves/improves the issue

-Start to zoom in on the problem causing place(s), and so on.

-Have you tested on other computer(s)

-Have you tried with or without the IFC 2019 add-in?

If I would make changes to the family I would simplify the geometry as much as possible.

Maybe replace it with a single extrusion the size of the truss.

Depends a little what you will need for coordination

Thank you for trying the family ,

how did I figured out the problem is form the truss family, is because I tried to hide all the trusses instance , and export the model and it takes around 20 seconds,

but when I isolate only the trusses instances, it became even hard to navigate the model in revit it became heavy,

I have tried to use another laptop but it's the same issue,
I ended up exporting the file in three steps,

exporting everything expert the trusses and that takes 20 seconds
exporting haft of the trusses and it took almost 5 hours
exporting the other haft of the trusses and it took 5 hours as well

Could you please post a screen shot of the IFC OPTIONS (File tab Open (IFC Options)) the IFC Class Mapping,

for the structural framing, what has been selected to be exported and what not to be exported?

Thanks,

-Revit 2019 file I used

-txt file with the IFC export settings

-The IFC

-Navisworks NWC file

Export took 20 seconds on my laptop

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP,

I TRIED MY BEST TO SOLVE THE FAMILY ISSUE AND THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE IT IS BY SPLITING THE FILE INTO 3 PARTS
