Dimensions and text in detail item family

Hello all,

I am trying to make sort of "automated" typical details for faster drafting (floor design). To do this I need to make dimensions (2) and text (1) visible outside a family - in a project.

I attached a family to better understanding. The idea is simple:  I have made family parameters asociated with global parameter using visibility parameters. But for both dimensions and text there is no "visibility" parameter. So could you please help and point me the direction.

Thanks in advance.

Text in detail item family doesn't show up when loaded into project since detail item is a view scale independent thing. To show text you have to nest it in an annotation family within a detail item.

Dimensions don't show up either they are just for making the family parametric. You would have to create something that looks like a dimension that is actually a detail item with arrows and text that are actually annotation families nested in the dimension family.

All of which being nested into your detail item.

So possible. However if you know that is 'Detail A' don't you describe that detail as having a 1m bar centred on the joint elsewhere in the drafting view etc. where 'Detail A' is a standard detail being referred to? If it is a standard detail you only have to dimension it in one place anyway.

Depending on your project you might be able to combine it with groups. There you have the options of adding detail groups (dimensions and text) to your groups

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Indeed, like L.Maas mentioned above, you can make a detail group with a dimension attached to it for easy usage in your detail views:

Thank you! This is the way to go. Just got to sort one thing:

When I put the family into project, the dimension is visible, but "automatic" label of dimension lenght is not. See family in attachment.

This is not just only for one detail, it will be done to many details, this is a simple one with which I have just started.

@semi and @L.Maas

I can add a dimension to detail group but in Revit I have to set visibility parameter for instance individually. And for dimension lines, there is not such option.

In a detail group, you can hover over any detail and click on the group member icon to make it invisible:

you can also restore it:

No messing around with families needed.

Thank you for your input but this is not the case. As I am making a template for other users, I will make it as simple as it can be. So there is a need to make it parameter asociated. Because other users wont update it.

Searched on the internet regarding why it text is not visible and I got a solution. I will make the dimension lines family as @RPTHOMAS108 said in generic anotation family. Thank you all!
