Hi everyone,
I’m looking for ideas for a data-driven BIM project that can solve a real-world problem in construction. I have experience working with Revit in modeling structures, reinforcement, schedules etc. I want to build something that leverages data and even Machine Learning to improve workflows, reduce costs, or enhance decision-making in BIM.
I want a project that:
- Is practical and solves an actual challenge in the AEC industry.
- Showcases data science within a BIM workflow.
- Could impress potential employers or be useful for industry adoption.
I’ve considered areas like predictive maintenance, AI-powered clash detection, rebar optimization, or automated carbon footprint estimation, but I’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have done a simple project that extracts rebars from IFC files and does a summary of total length and weight of them by bar diameter (attached an image). This doesn't really solve a problem but okay overall.
What are the biggest pain points in your BIM workflows that data and automation could help solve? Any project suggestions or industry gaps worth exploring?🙂
