Custom Rebar Shapes

Trying to create a custom shape that in plan has a straight section and then a slight bend, but also has the option of having a standard 90 degree hook on the end in the Z direction. Is this possible?

I've been able to use the Sketch Rebar and get it to show up properly by doing a Multi-Planer shape, however I manually have to adjust the "hook" length (uses the C parameter), anytime I modify it the C value resets and it also doesn't show it using the Standard Hook.

Hi @H4TSDESQ

Starting with Revit 2021 you can rotate the hooks and obtain 3d rebar shapes.

You can also override the hook lengths for each bar.

More about that here

Is it not possible within 2019? The project I'm currently working on with multiple outside members is in 2019 & upgrading is not possible at this time.

Yes, the hook rotation for shape driven rebar is only available starting in Revit 2021.

In Revit 2019, you could also use free form rebar which has the capability of rotating the hooks.

However, when the hooks are rotated, in Revit 2019, it cannot match to a Revit rebar shape (the workshop instructions parameter can only be keep straight). This means that it will not report individual bar segment lengths.

To create that bar using free form rebar, you can sketch the two segments, uncheck the multiplanar, switch the geometry parameter to Free Form and click finish sketch.

You can now add a hook and hook rotation.

Excellent. That last part was what I was looking for. Didn't realize you were able to switch to a free form after sketching in place. Thank you!
