Creating an editable family

Hi,

I have started learning Revit and have a newbie questions.

I've tried to create custom slab edge that is a triangle in cross-section. I have managed to create a family. Everything seems to be working fine but since I have to create many of them in different dimensions I want to be able to edit the dimension in the project not in the family so I don't end up with a lot of them.

In other words:

While creating a slab edge I want to go to "Edit Type" select one generic type of my slab and then set to dimensions.

Second question:

While creating this family I click "save as" set the name (for example "Edge Slab") and load it into the project. Then in the project it is named "Edge Slab : Edge Slab" how can i set it to be named just "Edge Slab" or at least avoid doubling the name.

@buckomarek1 Before you need to open the Profile family template and create the section which you want.

1.PNG

Then draw the profile section, and give the dim string to that lines then assign the label for those strings.

2.PNG

Like this you have to follow, creating the dim parameters (TYPE), Length & Width.

3.PNG

Same as for Width also, create the parameter and lock those strings. And save the file as "Edge Slab"

5.PNG

After this you need to create some types of these Edge Slab (This is your second qstn Ans).

6.PNG

Enter the new type name like "70 x 70" and click Apply and Ok.

7.PNG

After these steps save again and load in to your project, the try to edit the type parameters, It ll workout.

Thanks.
