Copy/Monitor issues: door openings are wider than origional door

When copy/monitoring from an arch link, the door openings (Rectangular Straight), come in wider than they are in the origional door. For example, a 3'-0" arch door comes in as 8'-3". This occurs the same on all size doors. Is there a fix for this or something that I can change to make this work correctly?

This is a common problem.  If you open the offending door family and look at the plan there is, most likely, a reference plane or something similar that is beyond the actual door opening.  When you copy/monitor walls with door openings the opening is cutting to the furthest object.  As far as I know there is no workaround.

Just to clarify - edit the door family from the monitored model, not your model.

This occurs as I am the Structural drafter. If I ask the archtect to take the reference planes out of their door families will this affect their doors from dynamicly sizing?

It shouldn't but they use these planes for other things such as ADA clearance, etc.. Being a structural guy also I know you may get resistance from your architect client. I have on occasion edited, saved their families and reloaded them whenever they sent a new model. This is not something I would recommend but is possible. Good luck.
