Copy monitor icons in Revit

Anonymous

When I select items on my linked revit model to monitor the little "pulse" icon does not show over the item being monitored (gridlines) to indicate they are being monitored. However, when I select items to monitor again it says that the itme is being monitored, but still no "pulse" icon. Am I missing a checkbox somewhere along the way. Not that it's hard to miss a checkbox in Revit wink wink.

I understand you have a question about Copy/Monitor Grids in your Revit file. I'm assuming you are working in Revit 2015, but verify. Please review the information in this link as I think it may help.

Here's additional information that may point to the underlaying cause:

Another link is overlapping, so you may be selection the wrong link

  1. Temporary, unload the other links
  2. Leave the Link with the Grids active
  3. Use the copy/monitor feature
  4. Select the link

If the above work flow fails, open the linked file and double check if these grids are actual Revit Grids and not a dwg file.

Thanks for posting.

Yes we are using 2015. I breifely read through the link you sent. The items I am monitoring will show up in the report if changes were made, it's just that the little icon showing me that the items being monitored (the little pulse icon) is not showing up. I do not want to copy the said items into my Revit model, I want to monitor them only. For example, I click on my grid 1, then click on the Architect's grid 1 and they are being monitored and it says so, but no icons indicating that monitor is on. Do the icons only show up if I do a COPY/MONITOR only? Maybe I'm doing something wrong or in the wrong order? It's not a big deal, really just thougth the icons would help me see at a glance what was being monitored.

I think you are hitting the check sign and not the Finish button after you Copy the Grids you want to Monitor. Here's a video that will walk you through the process and I have attached an image. If you click Finish the icon(s) will appear and if you click on an item later the icon(s) will re-appear. I hope this helps and let me know if you have any additional questions or comments.

I've got more going wrong here than I think, over and above my pulse icons not showing. I've tried to copy/monitor in some walls from the Architectural Revit model (just like in the video) rather than just monitor. They import and I get the warning about overlapping etc.. but they are Just not there. I've tried unhiding and they are not their either, I tried fixing visibility graphics to show all of the architectural items. Does it matter that these Architectural models are central models? I am lost on this one.

See my comments below:

You said: I've tried to copy/monitor in some walls from the Architectural Revit model (just like in the video) rather than just monitor. They import and I get the warning about overlapping etc..

I said: If the link and host have that same wall in the same place and you Copy/Monitor in the host file you will now have 2 walls in exactly the same location. The whole idea is to not have the wall in the host and copy it in from the link. This way if the wall moves down the road Revit will know and tell you.

You said: but they are Just not there.

I said: Sorry, you lost me on the above, can you expand?

You said: I've tried unhiding and they are not their either, I tried fixing visibility graphics to show all of the architectural items.

I said: so it sounds like you are clicking on the correct link and nothing is hidden.

You said: Does it matter that these Architectural models are central models?

I said: By central model do you mean you are working in a file that has Worksharing enabled? Or, you opened the Central File and started working in it. In ether case I don't believe it will make a difference. However, you should never work directly in the Central File.

As a matter of interest if you create two files (Host and Link). In Link add a few Grids and number them L1, L2, etc. and add few walls. In Host, link in Link file and then Copy/Monitor the Grids and the Walls and click the Finish button (just like the video), save and close the file. If you open Link and move one Grid and one wall and save, close. Now reopen the Host file and you get a Coordination Message, what happens? The expectation is that whatever you moved in the Link file should have moved in the Host. This is how its supposed to work. If you are getting different results we may have to take his case internally and I will arrange a time where we can do a TeamViewer Session. If however its working as expected I'm left wondering what went wrong in your file. I guess if you Stop Monitoring everything and start again we may be able to narrow down the issue.

Thank you

I apologize if I'm causing confusion, my frustration I think is clouding my ability to visualize properly . I will read through your posts a little more carefully and see if I've missed one of your steps. I will get back to you when I've done so.

Arron,
Good morning. Yes, please read through Alans post. I have seen this issue come up before and here is the main solution, when you are in the copy/monitor command and you select Monitor then select the element (your element that you created from either scratch or via copy/monitor) you need to select the Finish check box. That being said, however, there have been issues where the user has hidden the grids or just that element and they will get the same results. I hope this helps.

Alan, thank you again for your time in posting solutions.

That seems to be the solution. I worked on a different project with a different architect. the little pulse symbols showed on items that were being monitored, but not on one grid in particular. But, like with all things Revit I found a work around.
