Column Stick symbol lines in floor plan

Hello,

I am having an issue with structural column visibility in coarse plans.

See first screen cap. The two columns should not look the same, since one is not cut and it stops below the level of the floor plan (and definitely below the cut plane).

The problem comes from the family.

See attached, screen cap from OOTB HSS structural column family.

In plan view, the family comes with symbolic lines "Stick Symbol [cut]" category, visible only on coarse, but visible always, cut or not cut.

Thus, there is no way to graphically differentiate columns being cut (that is, going up from the floor plan level) from the ones coming up from the level below, and stopping before the cut plane (but still within the view range).

Why is the option to show the lines only when instance is cut, not available? That would solve the problem: we could have Stick Symbol [cut] lines visible when cut, and [projection] lines otherwise...

The only way to solve this issue is to set the structural columns visibility to Medium, in view, so that no symbolic lines are used and the family is shown either cut or viewed form the top, see last screen cap.

thanks

regards

gio

Can you try something?... from the structural column family, clear the Show family pre-cut in plan views parameterhttps://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit-products/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018/EN...

It might be related to it.

Thank you Catalin,

but yes, that is the first thing i do... The parameter is UN-checked, my columns are NOT pre-cut.

I had a smilar issue. The way around it was to create a view filter where columns with "Top Level" at "at or below level". Obviously this can only work for some easy buildings with few levels and only since Revit 2019 I think (it didnt work in lower versions).

Does this issue still persist?

I found a very quick and easy solution for the below issue, namely "Show only if Instance is cut" being greyed out.

1.) Change the family type to something that supports stick symbols being cut.

In this example I change from Generic Models to Structural Framing and then back to Generic Models.

2.) Check the "Show only if Instance is cut" checkbox for all the pertinent elements.

3.) Change the family type back to its original (desired) type. The box will remain checked (though still greyed out).

4.) Voilà

This works for any family type that does not support being "cut". Why Autodesk blocked this feature is unfathomable.

I had to dig deep to find this solution.

I hope this helps.
