Column Rebar

Hi,

How can I draw column rebars as one set of rebar ?

When I draw it like below picture, I get 4 sets of rebars and for any stretch or other changes on those rebars, I should select all of them.

You can edit the constraints for the top of the bars to each other so when one moves all the other move.

Thanks @jay_colcombe 🖐😊

It can be a solution. but when I need to repeat this task for 200 times, it becomes frustrating. I was Looking for a more straight forward solution. 🤕

Another question:

Can I set "Start of Bar" constraint in the "Plan View" instead of 3D view?

Message 5 of 15

This is the only solution I can think of at present without the use of Addins.  I would get one columns setup as required and then Propagate the rebar to other columns.

Please review Addins such as;

CADS RC3D

Naviate

Graitec Advanced Tools

AGACAD

No, not really!

You could use Building Section or Framing Elevations to cut through the Columns/Walls

Hi Ovidiu,

I hope you are doing well. 🖐

Can you add a rectangular pattern for rebar placement, So we can draw and modify rebars with fewer clicks. 🙏

One way is that user enters number of bars in two perpendicular directions, and Revit places them in rectangular pattern with equal spacing. (red line area in below picture can be a good example)

@jay_colcombe

I was curious to know that, do you use Revit for small buildings or for big and high rise buildings ?

And are you comfortable with Rebar modeling in Revit when project deadline is close ?

Can you work with Revit fast enough?

Sorry to ask so many questions 😅

I have used Revit with Rebar in anger for both small and large projects in consultancy.

It does allow you to achieve the result you need but obviously dependant on user knowledge.

There are workarounds with every software and my employment for CADS RC3D was to create individual solutions to such workarounds but we did also have a design fabrication department who used Revit for Rebar on all BIM related projects and still do effectively.  Have a look at their website.

@jay_colcombe

I checked the website.

But considering my financial situation (I live in a poor country with high inflation), buying Revit subscription annually is hard enough for me, let alone buying plugins for each year 🙄☹️

I like to satisfy my needs with Revit alone.

Anyway, Thanks for your help my friend. I really appreciate that.

Please review the link below;

CADS rc3d | Autodesk App Store : Plugins, Add-ons for Autodesk software, AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, 3...

This is a Free addin and includes automated processes to the question you asked earlier to as regards multiple bar placement in one process

Oh, that's great. Thank you so much for your help. You helped me like a real friend 👍🤗

I will install it and give it a try.

In the end, I hope Revit implement these requested features, so users can satisfy their needs with Native Revit tools conveniently.

Thanks again.

Hi @farzanbayat74

You can post this to Revit Ideas, so others can add their feedback and support.

Also mention all the use case. One is reinforcing a rectangular column, but how would you specify this for an L shaped column, for example?

Maybe you are describing the generation of rebar, based on some predefined patterns and rules, in typical elements.

Also, how you you expect to set the start or end of bar constraint in the plan view, if you don't see the length of the bar or the faces to which the start or end would constrain to?

@ovidiu_paunescu

Greetings Ovidiu,

About posting in Revit ideas community:

I've posted several times, but unfortunately I see no feedback from Autodesk admins or users, But I'll go there and post this idea in there too. I suppose a big portion of Revit users don't visit Revit ideas community very often. Or maybe they lost hope in having activity in that forum and talk about their needs.

About predefined patterns:

Yes, I'm talking about predefined patterns of longitudinal rebars for rectangular columns and beams.

For L shaped Column, it's easy too. Simply put one rebar in each corner, then distribute the rest of them between corner bars.

About start and end rebar constraints:

I think there is a programming solution for that too. I'm a structural engineer and have no expertise in software coding 😄

but doing this in plan view, is easier for me for projects like below picture. (I can do more tasks in one view)
