Centreline Geometry from a Point Cloud Survey

Hi there,

I am looking for some advice or someone to point me in the right direction of software that could assist in my task. relatively new to the use of point cloud information.

I have been given a point cloud survey, whereby I am required to create a simple centreline geometry of all steel columns/beams and bracing captured within the point cloud. I will be using Revit 2015 to do this. I have inserted the .rcp file and started creating my sections and plans where I can start visualizing the location of each element.

I am really just wondering if anyone has had experience in doing this before. I have been creating a series of reference planes and using model lines to create a 3D stick model of the centreline geometry, which I am hoping to end up with. The whole process is very time consuming and the points in the survey are very sporadic, therefore pretty difficult to produce centrelines with accuracy.

Would anyone have any tips that I can try out within Revit to make the process easier, or does any know of any add-ons you believe that could assist in this task. Even if anyone recommends using alternative software to produce this, i.e. AutoCAD. I am all ears.

Thanks in advance of any comments.
