Randomly cannot save my project. Not sure where this should go in the forums but I work mainly on structures so I figured here will do.

This is the second time I'm getting this error today and I've had work colleagues get similar errors and no one seems to know why or how to fix it?

As you can see from the image there are no background calculations running. They're also all turned off where possible. I have no idea how to get around this issue.

Hey guys....

1 Remove all connections

2 open new window

3 close the new window

4 go back to your model

simple as that πŸ™‚ it did work with me

Hello everyone!

I understand that some of you are experiencing difficulties when trying to save your projects in Revit, especially after copying a steel plate. I have found a solution that has worked for me and might help solve this problem:

1. Open a new project in Revit.
2. Save this new project in your desired location.
3. Now, go back to the original project you were working on and try saving again. This time, it should allow you to save without any problems.

It is important to note that, to avoid future problems when saving, it is advisable to model the steel plates from scratch instead of copying them from other projects. This usually prevents problems that can arise when trying to save.

I hope this solution is helpful. If you have any other questions or require further assistance, don't hesitate to ask - good luck with your Revit projects!

Hi Andres, that sounds helpful in the interim. I look forward to trying it out next time I get the error.

Tell me, does your advice to avoid copying plates from other projects also apply to copying within a project?

Dale uno, undo, hasta que te deje guardar. Cierras y abres el proyecto, eliminaste alguna vuga o columna y le conexion queso con algun error.

This bug still exists in Revit 2024, the only way I found to work around it was as @PSmart17 discovered to open a new document.

I'm actually surprised to hear that. I still get the problem too but it is always solved by doing a good chunk of 'undoes' followed by 'redoes' to get everything back. Then I have to save and reopen the project if I want to avoid having to do it every 5 minutes.

Undoing and redoing seems to work perfectly!

Thanks for that great workaround!

Found the solution! It occurs when making changes to the steel plate or connections. I simply undid my actions, re-moved the plate, and now everything works fine.

Its very frustrating... Undo 100 actions didnt worked for me, I dont work with steel, just HVAC, piping, dict and mechanical equipment, some walls and floors just to give idea of spaces, but mainly HVAC; I was still able to work in the model with no problem, but cant save... it worked for me to make a copy of the file I was working on; without closing it and append "copy" to the end of the file; then open the copy and delete everything but the floor and grids; then in the file with the issue, a selected everything, then filtered anything not important such as dimensions or whatever is not important; then paste it aligned to current view on the copy model and voila! that copy can be saved...

of course after many hours of figuring out what to do... Hope this helps

Hi @daniel7FDRJ

I managed to get around this glitch while working in Revit on structural connections, encountering the same error message.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Keep your current Revit file open.
  2. Make a copy of the specific Revit file in your windows explorer and then open the copied file.
  3. Now, both the original and the copied files are open in Revit.
  4. You should now be able to save your original Revit file.

I hope this works for you. I've done this more than three times today, and it has been successful each time.

After saving your file, close and reopen it to "refresh" Revit. This should ensure that your connections work fine again with quick background calculations.
