Cannot copy/monitor a grid of columns

When using copy/monitor to copy a columns from the architect's file, I cannot copy their columns. I select one colum and it highlights all of them at once. Then if I click on the filter icon it shows columns were selected, with the quanty of columns at 1, so I assume it is selecting a grouped set of columns from the linked file. We would like to copy the columns so that we may update and edit them. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

EDIT: It actually appears that the gird of columns is in a family.

I understand that you cannot copy monitor a grid of columns in Revit. Please respond/address the following:

1. What version of Revit are you using?

2. If you open the architects file and add a few column, then save and close. Then open your file and re-load the architects file can you copy/monitor the columns you just added?

3. If you click on the column/grid (where you said "It actually appears that the gird of columns is in a family") is it a Group? Can you ungroup, re-load and test copy/monitor?

4. If you copy the column/grid (where you said "It actually appears that the gird of columns is in a family") into a blank out of the box Revit Architecture file and link that into your project can you copy monitor.

If the answer to 4 is "No" please attach the new blank file with the column/grid here. Lets start here.

If the answer to 2 or 3 "No" I will create an FTP internally and you will need to upload your file and the architects model.

Thank you for your reply, but I found that it really was a family with multipule extrusions in it as columns. The etrustions therefore could not be ungrouped.
