Can't edit wall opening width in elevation once dimensioned

I've got elevation views of concrete walls that need to have the openings dimensioned. Before they are dimensioned, when I select an opening, the automatic sketch dimensions show up and I am able to change the width by clicking on the dimension and entering a new number. After I place dimensions in the view, I am unable to select the width dimension to edit. You can see in the capture below that the width is not blue. I can change the side dimensions but that only moves the opening left or right, doesn't affect the width at all. I can switch to a plan view to edit it but that's kind of a pain to be jumping back and forth.

if you click the wall opening you created and when the dimension appear and make the temporary dimension to become permanent dimension then you can adjust the dimension length (they will become blue  colour which means can modify) and if you add a annotation dimension in the wall opening you won't be able to adjust automatically. the bottom line is only temporary dimension and make them permanent dimensions can be adjusted. thanks
