Best practice for reporting weight of a family object

We're upgrading the Revit families we use for Audio/Video/Theatrical Lighting and would like to have them include weight in a format that's actually useful to a structural engineer working in Revit.  Examples would be items like speakers, or TVs mounted on a wall, or projectors suspended from a ceiling.  Is there a structural parameter(s) we should include in the family?

There is no dedicated parameter for "Weight" in Revit that will be automatically read by a structural analysis program.

Usually the structural engineer will have to place an appropriate load element to represent the weight of equipment.

However, if you’d like to add a parameter that represents the weight of the equipment:

-Edit the family

-Add a new Shared Parameter (it must be shared to appear in schedules and tags)

-Make it a Type Parameter, Discipline: Structural, Type of Parameter: Weight

-Add the correct value to the family.

After that, you can load this shared parameter into your other families, give them the appropriate values, and they will all schedule the weight in the same column.

Thanks Joe!  I was hoping for something that worked as seamlessly as the electrical parameters, but based on the responses from both of you that doesn't exist.  This at least lets us know what's possible.
