Adding the Rebar Shape to the Rebar Tag Family

Hi,

I'm trying to add a rebar shape to the rebar tag family, I did the following:

• create a shared parameter " Rebar Shape" and added it to each rebar shape family to report the rebar shape number(for type M_00 it report 0, for type M_01 it report 1 and so on).
• create with lines the shapes for the common rebar shapes used.
• assign each shape to a visibility parameter.
• use a formula to link those visibility parameters with a shared parameter created before " Rebar Shape".

the problem is that the shared parameter work correctly with the rebar shape family and report the required information, but it did not report any value in the rebar tag family.

Hi @Anonymous 

The Tag only reads the parameters you add to a label inside that tag.

If you just add a shared parameter to the type properties for the tag, it will only be available for you to edit, not reference another element.

so there is no way to link this shared parameter " Rebar shape" to read the same shared parameter value in the rebar shape family?

Unfortunately there isn't.

This is the general behavior in Revit, the shared parameter that you set up for one family is not read by the same shared parameter set up in a different family (even when the second family is a tag).

The parameters are read only through labels.

I recommend you post this in Revit Ideas. Other examples of where this would be useful probably exist in other disciplines as well.
