Adding drainage to revit structure

I am busy modelling a building and now I have been asked to model in some drainage pipes, the civils team have designed them in a 2d cad drawing.

Not having done this before I am not sure if it possible in revit structure i do not have mep and even if i did do not know how to use it. I see some plumbing and piping under the systems tab but no clue as to how to use any of it.

In meantime I created a circular beam and laid it like my drain should be.

What have others done when it comes to drains?

If you have the systems tab and see some piping components then you should have everything for your drainage.

You would create a piping system (e.g. sanitary) and use/load/create the proper pipe fittings and then use them to draw your piping sytem into the project.

However explaining into detail how this all works together is not answered by a simple forum post. For htis you should follwo some kind of traiing (book, video or classes).

Regards the plumbing. I am going to try and do the plumbing, with the help of some on line basic tutorial and for the moment just stormwater

I would like to keep the plumbing as a separate model for now but am not sure how to go about it.

Is there a way to make a copy of my structural model and just delete everything and this way I know my plumbing will be in correct location .

Reason being my limited experience in Revit someone else set up the positioning of my structural model so it is in line with Architect models coordinates. As I have no experience of doing this I thought by just making a copy it would remain in same coordinates.

Easiest way would be to start new project and link your structural model. During loading you can select origin to origin. Than the two projects will be aligned and use same coordinates

I managed to put in the sloping stormwater drains but dont know how to put the vertical bits and connecting bits. My model is more for a visual guide as there are proper civil drawings which will be issued for tender.

any quick way to remedy this??

You will have to set up your pipes.

In the routing preferences of your pipes (under pipes, pipe types in your project browser) you should setup all your needed fittings (e.g elbows, tees).

You have to make sure that these pipe fitting families are loaded into your project, before you can select them in your routing preferences.

For attached screenshot I used the OOTB Autodesk Mechanical Project Template.

I went into system/pipe

default pipe appears

edit type/duplicate as name elbow

routing preferences / edit and it shows elbow as NONE  (see attached png)

As mentioned in my preivious post. You have to make sure these pipe fittings (families) like elbows and tees are loaded in the project. If they are loaded in the project you can select them in the routing preference.

Study one of the default templates. If you start a new project with the default mechanical project template from Auotdesk you should be able to see examples of how this works. In there already some systems are setup and the needed families are loaded
