Wire path

Hi all,

Just playing with the wire path feature in Revit 2019 and wondering what is the logic behind the circuit path (electrical). Can we set the starting and ending point?

The attached snapshot shows a path in blue where the A point is set on the bottom of the element and point B is set on the middle of its element?

not sure what your showing in the image :-). wiring in Revit is purely analytical and not meant to be how it is "actually run". the total length is the length of the circuit from the connector, or series of connections, to the panel source. you only get a length after you make a full circuit to a panel/source

It looks like you may have made a circuit and have the Edit Path option selected?  if so it is really best to look at that in a 3D view to fully see what is going on. Then you can pick the path line and adjust it as needed to account for obstacles and Rise/Drop scenarios.

the first image is how Revit ran the circuit by default, the second image is after I modified it to more accurately represent how it will actually be run.

IMHO the edit wire run option is so you can use a more realistic length for voltage drop calcs. Revit will default to what it thinks is the shortest logical way (wall down, floor or ceiling horizontal etc.) and this allows you to edit to a longer path.

Not sure if it is meant to include actual wire run in the bid documents, that typically is not part of the design.

Revit version: R2025.4
