Hi all,
A client (based in India) has queried us on where the standard symbols in Revit (and I mean every symbol) come from. I'm aware that these are often edited by companies and different standards are used on an individual basis, but I am talking about the inherent symbols for everything. The best example is that the client wants to know what the symbol for a cross section through a vertically rising duct is based on. This common across all projects I've worked on, and I've never questioned it, but it has proved very difficult to find confirmation that this is indeed based on an actual standard. I assume it is probably in accordance with an ISO/ASME standard, but I can't find any evidence of this. I'm aware that others have posted in forums about symbols not being in accordance with EU standards, but I am just looking for confirmation of WHICH standard they are based on.
If anyone has any thoughts (or answers) I'd be very grateful.
Thanks
Joe
Standard electrical symbols may be found in NECA-100.
Fire Alarm and Life Safety symbols may be found in NFPA-170.
Other symbols and standards, particularly as it relates to sheet setup like sections, titles etc., may be found in NCS UDS. I think for your "symbol for a cross section", you need to look in NCS.
Hi,
mechanical part ( about duct symbol):
I am pretty sure that this part isnt defined in ashrae standard, if I open ashrae I can find just this two symbols
but If I open default Revit template (USA) and draw a few duct (supply, exhaust, return):
and open a smacna cad standard : (https://www.smacna.org/docs/default-source/technical-resources/smacnacadstandard.pdf?sfvrsn=d921fda5...)
they look pretty much the same...
but the rest symbols -family symbols are very poor and require extra work on symbols and even many objects do not have a symbol...
But if I open some european template there is a different set (its obvious that this settings depends from country to country):
german template:
and families have applied much more symbols like:
BR
Ljuban
