what if the Central file is deleted?

Hello Revit users,

Thank you for stopping by,

What to do if someone faces this issue?

If the Central file is deleted, even more if one of the inserted revit link in the central files was deleted.

Because sometime other companies work on the same local model and they send us their files like Sanitairy, or hvac , or electrical.

So can I bring back somthing by the local file that with used work on?

Hi,

You can use backup file created by your central model to restore that model.

Go to Collaborate >>  Restore Backup >> select the backup file created at central file location, click on the same and restore.

Or you can use local file of user who has used the model just before deletion and save that as a central model.

our practice with working with Sub-consultants is to have them hosted in a Data-In folder. then new folders are made for was submission they submit to us. the RVT files from the submission are put in a Revit Links folder under sub-consultants and then overwritten with each new submission received. my project file only links from the Revit Links folder. as long as the names don't change i never have to worry about it. they just get overwritten and when i open revit i always have the latest links.

all that said...

  • if a file gets deleted from the revit links, i can always copy it from the submission folder. if the submission folder gets deleted, i go to IT :-).
  • if your model gets deleted it can be remade from a recent local. open Revit > point to the Local > pick Detach from Central > open the file. once open, save it to the proper location and Sync to Central. once the central is remade, open it as normal letting revit make your local for you.

You should have a backup of the central model... if not take the most recent local file, and recreate your central model.
