Say what? in·vo·ca·tion - the summoning of a deity or the supernatural. WTF? Is Revit going to try and conduct a séance?

Wow, that's a good one.  I have a library of saved error messages that entertained me over the past decade and I've never seen that one before.

Isn't the invocation part of a traditional church service in one Christian sect or another also?

I'm not sure, it certainly could be.

Another definition was "an incantation used for this". I wasn't sure what incantation meant so I looked it up too, in·can·ta·tion - 1) a series of words said as a magic spell or charm. 2) the use of words as a magic spell.

I understand you are receiving the Error: "Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation"

What action is triggering this message? Saving the model? Also, are you using Vault? This message can been seen when trying to check-in a file to Vault. If so, please check out This Article for some troubleshooting steps.

@stephen.st.russell I'm not using Vault; I've actually never even heard of Vault before. Honestly, I don't remember what I did that caused the error message. I was getting some error messages last week while saving, but this wasn't the one. The errors I was getting while saving where two error messages back-to-back, and this was a stand alone error message. After getting this error message I saved, synced, and closed Revit then I started it back up and haven't seen the error message since. I was wondering what the heck it means and what might be causing it. It was definitely a funny error message when some of the words in it are defined as summoning the supernatural with magic spells, that made me laugh. Just glad it didn't crash and cause me to lose any of my work.

Hello @ben,

That definitely is a curious error message. For reference, Vault is a CAD collaboration and Data Management system. We have seen this exact error message in conjunction with Vault, which is why I asked.

I am glad you have not received this error message again, and it did not seem to hinder your workflow much.

Do you happen to be using Glue? We have seen this is some case in conjunction with Glue, however the error message you posted does not look like the format it is typically delivered in.

While the time may have passed in order to collect it now. If you receive the message in the future, I would suggest collecting a Revit Journal File from the time you received and send it with a new Support Request

@stephen.st.russell I don't use Glue either.

Hello @ben,

After ruling out Glue and Vault we think the most likely culprit would be an Add-In. If you would like to test this, you might try temporarily Disabling Add-ins. That said, you had mentioned that you have not had this error again recently.  Per my post earlier, if you find you receive this error again, I would suggest collecting the relevant Journal files and creating a new support request
