Victaulic Tools Group by Zone

Does anyone know if the group by zone in the victaulic tools can auto populate from the names of the analytical spaces? I was wondering if it was possible to automate for when I create spools.

If the assemblies can be made to pickup that parameter and if the Vic Zone parameter can be made to pickup that value, you've got a pretty good chance. Not sure about it though as analytical zones don't really come into play in fabrication. We just started using that parameter just for sorting purposes but are entering it manually. Automating it is next on the list so I'll be following this thread and eventually looking into it myself. Maybe sometime tomorrow I can have a look at possibilities.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Just poking around in Victaulic it doesn't appear that Victaulic can auto populate Vic_Zone in a similar way that it does for assembly names.

You could write all your space names into one of each of the corresponding correct assemblies, then use the Move To function in the Vic dock and mass move all the assemblies to their correct zones.

Otherwise it seems like this is something that could be taken care of with Dynamo. Assigning the Vic_Zone parameter the correct value based on corresponding coordinate locations of the analytical spaces and assemblies might be a way to do it.

Update: Found that applying sequences is the best route to go so far. First you will create the sequence(s) in the group by settings. Then change the assembly prefix formula to "{Vic_Sequence}-". I isolated the areas that will be broken up per work order, selected everything in that view & applied the corresponding sequence (work order) per area at once. Each spool you create will apply that work order name.
