Using a Generic Model from an Arch Model in my MEP model?

Hi eveyone,

I have an architectural model I recently received and I need to take what I thought was a family from there and use it in my MEP project.  I went into the Arch model and saved the light fixture into my family library.  It wasn't until after I did that, that realized it wasn't a "family" but a "generic model".  How do I go about placing this "generic model" that is supposed to be a light fixture into my MEP project? And once I do that, does it behave like a light fixture? Meaning does it host to ceilings and will I be able to circuit it?

Thank you so much for any help,

NickD22

Open the family, click on the "Family Category and Parameters" button on the ribbon. Then change the family category from Generic Model to Lighting Fixture. You'll need to add an electrical connector to the family in order to circuit it (Create tab -> Electrical Connector).

I did everything you said in your answer (thanks again). Now that I have all that and I loaded the family into my project, when I try and place the fixture REVIT isn't giving me the option to host it to a face or vertical face.  Is there something I'm missing?

Thank you,

It's probably a non-hosted family, in which case you'll have to enter the offset elevation manually.
