Unable to rotate family after adding connector

I'm fairly new to family creation, and I created a somewhat complex family with lots of parameters and everything was working great. However, as soon as I add a connector onto the end of the family, I can't use the space bar to rotate it prior to placing.

I stripped the family to the bare minimum to where it's only 3 shapes and the connector for troubleshooting purposes, and I'm still running into the same issue. I attached the file (2015) to see if anyone can figure out what the issue is. The moment the connector gets deleted, rotating works fine. Rotating also works semi-okay after placing it, but I'd like to have it function as it should in case this is being placed at an angle which would make it much easier for the designers.

Correct this is designed behavior. With a connector it will snap to other connectors (when in neighborhood), it then rotates automatically to align with the other connector.

As alternative you can use the rotate after placement.

Oh man, I spent hours trying to figure out a way around it, I'm glad I'm not going crazy. Thank you for your response.
