I have a Revit file working under mechanical discipline.

I am unable to create any Building or Wall Sectional view. Get the message shown below.

File (Revit 2021) attached.

I request someone to help me. Thanks in advance.

Hi @rwickrama_bcit

The floor plan you are using is a "Structural Plan" so all sections you make by default will become structural discipline. There is also a view template applied in Type Properties for the section that is "Structural Framing Elevation".  If you change the discipline of your view to structural you will see all of the sections appear that you have been placing.

Also, based on the content that is in this project, it looks you started this file from a structural template, if it truly a MEP project, i would strongly recommend starting over with a mechanical or systems template.  Not only will it solve the issues you are having now, but it is going to save you a lot of time loading tags and families related to MEP.  For instance, right now all of the tags loaded into this project are related to beam or columns, you don't have anything for Ducts/Pipes.

Let me know if you have any more questions, hope this helps.

Thanks

The error message does not say that you can’t create a section. You have created the section (multiple times perhaps?).

You just can’t see the section mark in your view.

  1. sections have to be enabled on the annotation tab in visibility graphics
  2. section has to be the same discipline as the plan view, or be coordination
  3. view extents of the section has to cut the level that the plan view is on
  4. the “hide at scales coarser than” setting has to be higher than or equal to the scale of the plan view
  5. view filters can also hide sections (e.g. by section family type or sub-discipline etc)

Any time that you see that message saying that something you created is not visible, don’t keep trying to add more instances. Stop and figure out why you can’t see the object which you did place - I’ve had instances of maybe ten pipes or radiators placed on top of each other because a junior just kept adding and adding without reading and understanding that message.

Not applicable

Click section on view tab.

In properties pallette click the small button (edit type)

Under identity data click on (none) beside (view template applied to new view)

select (mechanical section) template, OK,OK.

Now you can draw the line of the section and it will be visible.

The OP’s section was set to mechanical, their view was however structural so that solution wouldn’t work. The disciplines must match whether both mechanical or both plumbing etc, or be coordination, plus the other items that I mentioned such as view scale etc need to be looked at.….and add phase to that list as well.
