Trim Multiple Conduits Together - Faster Way?

Trim Multiple Conduits Together - Faster Way?

Does anyone know of a faster way to trim multiple conduits together than individually?

Often times i end up with a group running parallel that has to shift slightly, so i delete the fittings and move the part to where it needs to be, then have to trim each conduit back together. It is very time consuming and tedious. Pain in the rear honestly. Is there a way to use the multi-trim tool and re-connect them, besides just extending them to a reference? What do you do?

Thanks in advance!

Whenever I hear faster or tedious I start to think about Dynamo. It could be of help here.

I created a simple concept with pipes (conduits should also be possible).

You probably will need to change some nodes (like selecting which conduits to work on)

Before running the script

After running the script

Dynamo 2.JPG

As noted in the screenshot, the last node is form the MEPover package.

It tries to connect MEP curves (pipes, ducts, cable tray, conduits) which are close together.

It might not work in all situations but might speed up the process.

Dynamo... I love it! I appreciate the pointer L.Maas.

I need to take the time to utilize it. I'll give this a shot when i get to a slow point and see if i can make it work.

I take it there isn't a out of the box function in Revit to do what i am trying to accomplish then, huh?

No there is not something similar in the Revit GUI.

Check out dynamobim.org when starting to study Dynamo. You will find plenty of tutorials. That site also has a dedicated forum for Dynamo.

Try this script as well. Definitely not 100% depending on the direction the conduits were drawn in and a few other proximity issues, but this one lets you control your selection.

STEPS: Run script, select one set of conduit to be trimmed, click "finish", select other set to trim to, click "finish", done! This is definitely one you want to run in Dynamo Player if you're going to run it frequently!

Select first set-finish

Select second set-finish

And you're done!

Hi e.burch.

I tried your script but it's not working. I have all the nodes exactly as you have. Any thoughts?

Like I said in the post, it’s not 100%. It all depends on which direction all the conduits are drawn. It may require building script that will redraw the conduit all in the same direction and then trim it.

This simple script worked for me

That is basically what my script is doing, I just built it in a way that facilitates running it in Player mode. Let me know if that is working for you 100% of the time. Like I said, depending on how the conduits were drawn seems to  determine the success of that trim node. If it does work all the time, then my script may need work on the delay functions.
