Sprinkler System Interpretation

Again I'm new to MEP modelling and i got help for the HVAC systems here and was successful modelling it. Now I'm doing the sprinkler system,I'm not able to understand the two notations for the pipes, one is length of the pipe and the other one I have no idea. The picture has upright type sprinkler so how do you model them.??

Hello,

 

The upper one seems to be the size.

To find the upright sprinklers in the OOTB library, go to /Fire Protection/Sprinklers and load the desired one.

Hello,

 

I lil bit confused about your tread because of, I don't have too much technical terms. But I have some idea about sprinkler and some days ago I bought rachio sprinkler. And, for buying this, I read rachio sprinkler controller review. After reading this, I increase my knowledge about sprinkler. This is very good, you also try this once. Thanks.

To start modeling your sprinkler systems you have to check if you have the upright sprinkler loaded in the project. Go to "Systems" menu, Plumbing & Piping, click "Sprinkler". Now from the properties box check from the family type selector (see screenshot below, there's a drop down arrow to select other types), select the upright type. If there is no upright type, while in the process of inserting the family, click "Load Family" (as shown in the second screenshot), locate your library and load the correct sprinkler......continue far below after the images

Once the sprinkler is loaded, place them one by one to space as shown from your sketch. Make sure you have your "Offset" value from the properties box higher than your pipes, try 2 to 4" higher than your pipe elevation. I can see there's +11' 2, left of your sketch, I believe that's your pipe level from FFL or maybe SSL, use that as a reference. Branch pipes might be higher than the main pipe depending on your local code if cross-type fitting is allowed to use, meaning your sprinklers should be placed higher than the branch pipes.

 

Now you have all the sprinklers inserted, place all the pipes. Most of them runs and aligned just below the sprinklers. Select a sprinkler, click "Connect Into" (see above menu in your screen) then click the pipe below the sprinkler. Sprinkler will now connect to the pipe. Repeat the same exercise to the rest of the sprinklers. 

 

If you are having errors in connecting them, you may need to raise the sprinklers a bit to give sufficient space for the fitting's/connections. You can select the sprinklers all together and adjust the offset from the properties box and try to connect again. Be aware that Revit is doing some strange things like even if you have enough space for the connections, it will still give you a warning. The good thing is you can cheat, you raise the elements as high as possible and move them back after connecting them as near as possible to the fittings and it will not give you an error.
