Schedule Count Workaround

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi All,

I've been searching the forums but I still can't seem to work this out.

I have a schedule for all my types of fixtures (sorted by their abbreviation).  I am not itemizing every instance so I get a total count.  Each fixture has a unit rate which I need to multiply by the total count.

(A) COUNT (B) ABBREVIATION (C) DESCRIPTION (D) FIXTURE UNIT RATING (E) TOTAL RATING

In my head (and Excel) its as simple as (E) x (A).  However the count column can't be referenced in a calculated value field.  I have read about a workaround to basically duplicate the "Count" column, but I can't work out how to do it - I'm clearly missing something.

Can someone spell it out for me please?

Hello,

Is total rating a Shared Parameter or Project Parameter? To be available in schedules, it must be one of those.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Total rating is the calculated field I am trying to create.  Sorry in my original post I wrote (E) x (A) - but I actually meant (D) x (A) = (E).

Ok,

So I have found the workaround.

Under fields, I created a new "Calculated Value" (I called it Count Calculated).

Discipline: Common

Type: Integer

Formula: 1

Under formatting, I selected the "Count Calculated" field and ticked the box "Calculate Totals".

This has given me a column that I can use in another calculated value!

Thanks for posting this.  Was hoping to use it to sort a schedule by count, because the built in Count parameter is not available to be added for Sorting.  I was able to add a "Count Calculated" parameter to the sort, but it appears to not do anything.  Hopefully Autodesk can fix this sorting behaviour someday.

It should work.  Did you follow his steps?

I have the Calculated Count and that works fine.  Its just trying to use it in the Sort tab of the schedule properties.  In there it appears to do nothing to change the schedule sorting.

How do you expect them to sort when they all have the same value = 1?  I have a feeling that your need is not the same as the original question.

Yah, you are right.  I have itemization off, so i'm sorting by family name and then type name.  Then i see a count of each type.  17, 4, 2, 11, etc.  I was trying to use this Calculated Count to sort these added up numbers in sequential order.

I'm trying this too.

I have a Duct schedule with Count and Length.

I've made the formula as suggested and my CountCalculated totals = my Count. Good.

But when I make my TOTAL LENGTH Calculated Value and multiply my Length * CountCalculated I got the pesky "Inconsistant Units" message.

So, I divide my CountCalculated by 1'

CountCalculated / 1' * Length

but the calculations don't work.  See below.  How have others got this to work?

Simply set the Formula for the calculated Total Count field = Length.  No need to x Count.

Then go to Format tab > set Total Length field to Calculate Totals.
